“Hand in Hand against Violence”
It has become obvious how terrible our life is because of the hysterical wave of violence that has hit our society and deprived us of our sense of security. Each time we trace the roots of every violent incident, we find nothing but silly reasons which are not worth mentioning. Dear students, please keep in mind that fire can’t be extinguished by fire; moreover, repelling evil by good and forgiving those who mistreat us are highly emphasized in our holy Quran. We should also bear in mind that there are no winners in crimes of murder, the criminal and the victim are both losers. If we ask every family involved in murder what they feel about what they have undergone, they unanimously and without reluctance will say that the worst day in their life is the day they got their hands dirty in blood. This writing contest is an attempt to give you the chance to suggest different practical ways showing how to handle certain stressful and provocative situations from the very beginning before they deteriorate into a crime of violence.
You have to choose one of the situations presented below and describe how you can manage your anger and how you should react to and deal with such provocative situations. The essay suggested length is 80-120 words. You have to submit your essay to your teacher not later than 31st December, 2019.
The first situation
Every time after the garbage truck empties the garbage bins, your neighbor changes the place of his bin and puts it near your house entrance. Your family resents that and decides to resort to power in order to put a limit to your neighbor.
The second situation
Your father and one of the neighbors have an argument over a little piece of land estimated by less than one-meter square. The argument would have developed into a fight with hands, if some neighbors had not interfered and calmed down the situation.
The third situation
You are driving your car through a narrow way; and suddenly you are surprised by a car coming from the opposite direction and moving at high speed that you are forced to stop your car aside. When the car gets closer, the driver slows down, opens his car’s window and starts staring angrily at you.
The fourth situation
Your young brother comes home crying; and his state is very pitiful. When he starts speaking, you hardly understand from his quivering voice that he has had a fight with his friend.
The fifth situation
You get bored and almost tired of waiting your turn in a long line in the post office; and suddenly, when your turn comes, a strange person bumps into you and pushes himself to take your turn.
The sixth situation
You live in a neighborhood that suffers from car congestion; and there are hardly enough parking places for the neighborhood cars. To make matters worse, some guests of your neighbors either park their car at the entrance, which blocks you in, or use your own parking space that you have to ask them each time to move their car out.
The seventh situation
The school candy bar is crowded by students bumping into each other and the recess time is running out. You are waiting impatiently to get your sandwich that you have ordered. When your sandwich is ready, you start filling it with salads. When you reach the last stage and want to add the tahini, another student undeliberately pushes you, which makes you drop the sandwich and spill the tahini on your clothes.
The eighth situation
You are used to tell funny jokes with your friends; and you really enjoy your time teasing and laughing at each other. However, one of your friends exaggerates a little bit in making fun of you in front of other students who start laughing at you. As a result, you feel very embarrassed and your face blushes.
